Deficit reduction committee three-fourths filled

House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., today announced their appointees to represent Republicans on the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction, the National Journal reported today.
Boehner’s and McConnell’s appointments followed an announcement Tuesday by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., of his appointments. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., must make her appointments by August 16.

- Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Pa.
- Sen. Rob Portman, R-Ohio
Reid appointed:
- Senate Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee Chairman Patty Murray, D-Wash., as co-chairman
- Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont.
- Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman John Kerry, D-Mass.
