NASS cuts back on surveys, aquaculture census

USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service announced today it has indefinitely postponed the renewal of the Census of Aquaculture and the Tenure, Ownership and Transition of Agricultural Land Survey in order to meet its budget.

NASS had planned to conduct these surveys to gather additional data following the 2007 Census of Agriculture, the agency said in a news release.

NASS also will suspend its July Sheep and Goats Inventory survey, which is part of a biannual program with the results published annually in January and July. Going forward, NASS will conduct only the January edition of the survey.

A notice in the Federal Register, providing detailed information about the program suspension, will soon be available, the agency added.
