The Environmental Working Group today released a study contending that replacing the direct payments that crop farmers get whether prices are high or low with an expanded “insurance” program would give big farmers “a guaranteed level of income.”
The study, titled “The Revenue Insurance Boondoggle: A Taxpayer-Paid Windfall For Industry,” was written by Bruce Babcock of Iowa State University at EWG’s request.
