USDA's 150th anniversary celebration begins today

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack will kick off a year-long celebration of the 150th anniversary of the USDA’s founding today in Springfield, Ill., the hometown of department founder President Abraham Lincoln, USDA announced.
Lincoln signed into law an act of Congress establishing the United States Department of Agriculture in 1862.
Later today, Vilsack will hold an event on President Barack Obama’s jobs proposal and what it would mean for Illinois.
On Thursday, Vilsack will deliver the keynote speech at Bradley University’s symposium on “The Future of Midwest Agriculture and Environmental Sustainability” in Peoria, Ill.
