Toomey elected president, CEO of Waterways Council

The Waterways Council, Inc. board of directors has elected Mike Toohey as president and chief executive officer, effective August 14.

Toohey most recently served as consultant with The Livingston Group’s transportation, shipbuilding, shipping and ports practice area. Before that, he served as vice president of government affairs for Ashland Inc., a global chemical, energy and construction company.

He served as assistant secretary of Transportation from 1992 to 1993 during the Bush administration and also served has Republican staff director for the House Public Works and Transportation Committee and the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee during a 14-year tenure with the House of Representatives.

Waterways Council, Inc. is a national public policy organization advocating a modern and well-maintained national system of ports and inland waterways. The group is supported by waterways carriers, shippers, port authorities, shipping associations and waterways advocacy groups from all regions of the country.
