Farm Bureau would consider temporary supply management for dairy

By JERRY HAGSTROM

The American Farm Bureau Federation today sent House Agriculture Committee ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., a letter on his dairy reform proposal, stating that while it is opposed to the supply management provision, it would consider supporting a temporary supply management system.

By ideology, Farm Bureau is opposed to supply management, but at its convention last January its delegates voted to consider the National Milk Producers Federation “Foundation for the Future” proposal, which included a supply management provision.

Farm Bureau also asked Peterson to consider four options it proposed in the letter.

The International Dairy Foods Association, which represents the dairy processors, is strongly opposed to the supply management provision.
