Senate recess canceled for work on budget

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., today canceled next week’s Senate recess and said the Senate will be in session beginning Tuesday, July 5.

President Obama said Wednesday that Congress should stay in town and work on the budget. U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner has said Congress needs to increase the debt limit by August 2.

Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., also said Wednesday that he would announce his fiscal year 2012 budget next week.

The House is not in session this week, but was already scheduled to be in session next week. The House is scheduled to be out of Washington the week of July 18.
