Baucus schedules mock markup on draft free trade bills

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus, D-Mont., will hold a “mock” markup on Thursday of the draft implementing bills for the South Korea, Colombia, and Panama free trade agreements that include an extension of trade adjustment assistance (TAA).

“The TAA provisions in the legislation unveiled today reflect bipartisan, bicameral agreement on the underlying substance following discussions that included House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Dave Camp, R-Mich., and the White House,” Baucus said in a news release that announced the mock markup.

The proposal would extend TAA through Dec. 31, 2013, Baucus said. Congressional approval of the free trade agreements has been a goal long sought by farm groups.
