First lady to attend Alice Waters-hosted fundraiser

First Lady Michelle Obama will appear at an Oakland, Calif., breakfast fundraiser for President Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign hosted by Alice Waters, the legendary Berkeley, Calif., chef, who pioneered the concept of school gardens, Obama Foodorama reported today.

The event will be held June 14 in a downtown Oakland practice facility for the Golden State Warriors. Ticket prices will range from $1,000 to $25,000 per plate.

In a letter of invitation sent to Obama supporters, Waters said the event will be a celebration of the ideals of the first lady’s “Let's Move'" campaign against childhood obesity and feature foods from Bay Area farmers and purveyors, said Obama Foodorama, which chronicles White House food initiatives.

The event appears geared toward supporters of local and organic agriculture and marks a dramatic shifting in agriculturally-oriented fundraising, which has focused in the past on agribusiness and conventional growers.
