Former USDA official starts consulting firm

James Callan, a USDA Risk Management Agency official in the Bush administration and executive with the Corn Refiners Association, has founded James Callan Associates, a consulting and lobbying firm in Arlington, Va.

The firm will focus on federal crop insurance, farm programs, crop protection, technology, environment, and budget-appropriations issues, Callan said in an email.

Callan was associate administrator of the Risk Management Agency and deputy manager of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation. He was later senior director of communications for the Corn Refiners Association. He has also worked on Capitol Hill and was executive director of the National Agricultural Aviation Association. He serves on the boards of the American University Alumni and the Claude Moore Colonial Farm in McLean, Va.
