Bohman promoted to ERS administrator

Mary Bohman
Mary Bohman, a longtime official at the Economic Research Service and current acting administrator, has been promoted to administrator on a permanent basis, Agriculture Undersecretary for Research, Education and Economics Cathie Woteki announced Monday.

Bohman will oversee the agency's program of economic and social science research and analysis.

“Dr. Bohman has been an invaluable part of the ERS team for 15 years, and we in the REE mission area are fortunate to have someone with such dedication to ERS leading the agency,” Woteki said in an email to her staff.

“I have the utmost confidence in Dr. Bohman’s ability to lead ERS, and know that under her guidance the agency will continue to produce the valuable economic research and information for which it is known, serving as an important resource for farmers, agribusiness, consumers, and policymakers,” she added.

Bohman joined ERS in 1997, and has also served as deputy director for research for ERS's market and trade economics division and chief of the market and trade economics Europe, Africa, and Middle East branch.

She has recently been directing the ERS resource and rural economics division as well as holding the position of acting administrator. She also has experience at the Office of Science and Technology Policy, and served as a faculty member in Agricultural Sciences at the University of British Columbia from 1990 to 1997.

Bohman received her doctorate from the Department of Agricultural Economics at the University of California at Davis, and her bachelor of science degree from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.

She is a member of the Agriculture & Applied Economics Association, Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, Wye Group on Statistics on Rural Development and Agricultural Household Income, and the International Association of Agricultural Economists.
