U.S., Mexico announce agreement on Mexican trade impasse

President Obama and Mexican President Felipe Calderon announced today that the United States and Mexico have announced an agreement in principle to resolve a trade impasse over allowing Mexican trucks to haul goods into the United States.

Details were not announced but the National Pork Producers Council praised the agreement, saying Mexico had agreed to lift the increased tariff it had placed on U.S pork after Congress cut off funding to renew a pilot program that let a limited number of Mexican trucking companies haul freight beyond a 25-mile U.S. commercial zone.

The United States had agreed under the North American Free Trade Agreement to allow Mexican trucks into the country.
