Renewable Fuel Standard lobbying intensifies

As the Environmental Protection Agency gets closer to finalizing the 2014 Renewable Fuel Standard, lobbying on the issue is intensifying.

A leaked copy of an EPA proposal on the RFS for 2014 to lower the renewable fuel volume obligation “would amount to a substantial transfer of wealth from American farmers and small businesses in the Heartland to glutinous multi-national oil and gas conglomerates,” according to an analysis posted on the Renewable Fuels Association website today.

In a news conference, officials from Abengoa Biogenergy and DuPont said that the proposed lower requirements would chill investments in biofuels.

Court action over the 2013 biofuels mandate is also intensifying, National Journal reported today.

Also, lower corn prices are causing shuttered ethanol plants to reopen, Reuters reported.
