GAO releases report on EPA pesticide registrations

The Government Accountability Office today released a report that says the Environmental Protection Agency is not keeping track of “conditional” pesticide registrations.

EPA responded that it agreed with the recommendations and “has actions underway to more accurately account for conditional registrations.”

But the Center for Biological Diversity said, “EPA is asleep at the wheel, allowing the chemical industry to drive the approval process without looking at whether these pesticides are a danger to people and wildlife. Pesticide companies are abusing a loophole in the law, and the EPA is blindly rubber-stamping toxic products across America.”
