Ag subcommittee to hold CFTC hearings

The House Agriculture General Farm Commodities and Risk Management Subcommittee will holding hearings Tuesday and Wednesday on the reauthorization of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.

Both hearings will be at 10 a.m. in Room 1300 of the Longworth House Office Building.

The Tuesday hearing is titled “The Future of the CFTC: Commission Perspectives.” Witnesses will be Scott O’Malia and Mark Wetjen, CFTC commissioners. The hearing will be Wetjen’s first testimony before the subcommittee.

The Wednesday hearing will be titled “The Future of the CFTC: End-User Perspectives.”

Witnesses for the second hearing will be:
  • Scott Cordes, president, CHS Hedging, Inc., St. Paul, Minnesota, on behalf of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives
  • Lance Kotschwar, senior compliance attorney, The Gavilon Group, LLC, Omaha, Neb., on behalf of the Commodity Markets Council
  • Richard McMahon Jr., vice president, Edison Electric Institute
  • Chris Monroe, treasurer, Southwest Airlines, Dallas
  • Andrew Soto, senior managing counsel, regulatory affairs, American Gas Association
  • Gene Guilford, national and regional policy counsel, Connecticut Energy Marketers Association, Cromwell, Conn., on behalf of the Commodity Markets Oversight Council
