House rejects amendment to change food aid program

The House has rejected the amendment to change the food aid program that buys commodities and ships them overseas to the Obama administration’s proposal to buy much of the food in countries close to where it is needed, and to give the U.S. Agency for International Development increased flexibility in managing food aid and agricultural development programs.
The amendment, sponsored House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce, R-Calif., was rejected with a 220 to 203 vote.
