Rules to issue farm bill amendments rule Tuesday, general debate rule today

The House Rules Committee has announced that it will meet at 2 p.m. Tuesday to issue a rule on how amendments to the farm bill will be handled on the House floor.

The committee was already scheduled to meet at 5 p.m. today to issue a rule on general debate, which will allow debate to begin on the bill, a Rules Committee aide said.

The committee has posted more than 100 amendments on the committee website, and it appears that the total of amendments filed will be between 150 and 200, the aide said.

At 2 p.m., which was the deadline for offering amendments, about 40 congressional aides were in line, and the committee staff is still processing those last amendments. As they are filed, the committee staff will post them online, the aide said.

The bill and amendments are available at the House Rules Committee website.
