House Ag Committee bill raises some target prices

A chart comparing the target prices in the 2008 farm bill, the farm bill proposal that was sent to the joint supercommittee on deficit reduction in December, and the House farm bill discussion draft reveals that House Agriculture Committee Chairman Frank Lucas, R-Okla., and ranking member Collin Peterson, D-Minn., substantially raised the target prices for barley, sorghum, minor oilseeds, lentils and chickpeas in the latest draft, compared with the December proposal.
Growers of those crops said that the target prices offered in December would not be competitive with the prices offered for major crops, and that production would decline.
