Congressional ball teams get 'sustainable' hardwood bats

At tonight’s congressional baseball game between Republicans and Democrats, both parties will get warmed up practicing with “sustainable” bats made from U.S. maple, emblazoned with the slogan: “American Hardwoods: Legal and Sustainable,” the Hardwood Federation said today.

The bats, manufactured by BWP Hardwood in Brookville, Pa., and a supplier of bats to all levels of baseball, celebrate U.S. progress and leadership in combatting illegal logging through the U.S. Lacey Act, which since 2008 prohibits the import of illegally logged wood and levels the playing field for U.S. wood producers, the group said.

The game will be played at Nationals Park starting at 7 p.m.
