FAO gives Gates permanent building pass

In what the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization described as a symbolic gesture of FAO’s commitment to working more closely with the private sector and civil society, FAO Director General Jose Graziano da Silva presented Microsoft founder and philanthropist Bill Gates with a permanent pass to the FAO building in Rome last week.

Graziano da Silva and Gates met last Thursday to discuss FAO’s data collection systems and Gates’s proposal to develop a public, multi-agency scorecoard to better measure hunger reduction.

The meeting took place after Gates gave a speech on agriculture to the U.N. International Fund for Agricultural Development, another U.N. food agency in Rome.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has released a transcript of Gates’s remarks, linked below.
