White House schedules conservation conference

The White House announced today that it will host a conference on Friday to explore the link between conservation and strong local economies through tourism, outdoor recreation, and healthy lands, waters and wildlife.

Speakers at the conference, entitled “Growing America’s Outdoor Heritage and Economy,” will include Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, Interior Secretary Ken Salazar, White House Council on Environmental Quality Chair Nancy Sutley, Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Lisa Jackson and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jko-Ellen Darcy.

The event will be held at the Interior Department.

Boaters, hunters, anglers, farmers, ranchers, land conservationists, historic preservationists, outdoor recreationists, small business owners, local governments, tribal leaders and others with an interest in President Barack Obama’s “America’s Great Outdoors Initiative” are expected to attend, the White House said.
